Voice Memo to Text

Turn voice memos into clean, punctuated transcripts with AI. Whisper-class accuracy, 90+ languages, 3 free transcriptions a day, no account required.

Introduction

Overview

voicememotext is a web-based AI transcription tool with one focused job: turning voice memos, meeting recordings, lectures, interviews, and any other spoken audio into clean, punctuated, editable text in seconds. There is nothing to install and nothing to configure — you open the site, drop in an audio file, and read the transcript. The tool was built around a simple observation: most people who record voice notes do not want another app to manage; they want the words out of the recording with as little friction as possible.

The transcription engine uses Whisper-class speech recognition models, the same family of models that set the benchmark for open transcription accuracy. It handles 90+ languages with automatic language detection, so mixed-language recordings and accented English both work without touching a settings panel. Output is not a raw word dump: the text arrives with sentence casing and punctuation restored, ready to paste into notes, emails, or a document.

Key Features

Fast, accurate transcription. A typical five-minute voice memo is transcribed in well under a minute. Accuracy on clear speech is excellent, and the punctuation model saves the manual cleanup that raw transcripts usually need.

Broad format support. Upload m4a (the default iPhone voice memo format), mp3, wav, mp4 video files, opus (WhatsApp voice notes), and more. On the free plan files up to 25 MB are accepted, which covers hours of compressed audio; the Unlimited plan raises the cap to 150 MB per file — several hours of audio in a single upload.

.txt and .srt export. Transcripts can be copied or downloaded as plain text. For video workflows, Unlimited users get timestamped SRT subtitles generated from the same transcript, which makes the tool useful for captioning as well as note-taking.

Privacy by design. Audio is deleted from the server immediately after processing. Transcripts are not used for training, and there is no human review pipeline. For users who care about confidentiality — lawyers, journalists, doctors — this is the feature that matters most.

History and cross-device sync. Create a free account and your transcripts sync across devices, so a memo transcribed on your phone is on your laptop when you get back to your desk. Anonymous users can still transcribe without any account at all.

REST API and MCP server. Developers can transcribe programmatically with a Bearer-authenticated REST endpoint, and AI-agent users get a native MCP server (streamable HTTP) with transcribe_audio and get_usage tools. API keys are managed from the account page and can be revoked at any time.

Speech-to-text that respects the free user. The free tier is genuinely usable: three transcriptions per day with no credit card and no account required. That is enough for a daily voice-memo habit.
