What is FaceRuler?
FaceRuler is a free face shape analyzer that tells you your face shape in seconds — without ever uploading your photo. Everything runs locally in your browser.
Why we built it
A friend once told me his face shape looked better than mine. I went looking for a face shape detector online, then stopped: every tool I found wanted me to upload a photo of my face to a server I knew nothing about. Face photos are biometric data. I didn't want mine sitting on someone else's disk, so I built a tool that never uploads anything.
How it works
- 478-point face landmark detection runs entirely on your device with WebAssembly (MediaPipe FaceLandmarker)
- A deterministic scoring engine converts the landmarks into 8 sub-metrics, weighted into 5 dimensions
- Results are anchored to the PSL median (4.0) through a logistic mapping, so scores stay comparable across faces
- No LLM and no randomness — the same photo always produces the same score
What you get
- Your face shape: oval, round, square, heart, diamond, oblong or triangle
- A 5-dimension breakdown with all 8 sub-metrics
- Style suggestions for haircuts, glasses and beard based on your own proportions
Privacy by design
Your photo is processed in your browser and never leaves your device. There is no upload endpoint, no account required and no photo storage. Close the tab and nothing remains.
